I am a big, big fan of Jack Turner and he made a couple of very good saves today against Sutton. However, on 1st March in another thread I wrote:
"Jack has been fantastic between the sticks, but....
With the greatest respect. I wish he would quit the habit of strolling out to the halfway line when we get a corner kick. OK, he has acted as sweeper on a couple of occasions but mostly he ends up having to run backwards into the 18 yard box when he should be assessing when and how to run forward to close the angle.
I genuinely hope that someone doesn't make him look foolish with a long-range shot. It also looks a bit arrogant IMHO..."
Unfortunately for Jack, it was proven today that having a goalkeeper stand close to the half-way line when we're taking a free-kick isn't a very smart move. And, it still looks rather cocky. Whilst not beaten by a long shot, Jack was left floundering in no-mans land outside of the 18-yard box, whilst Hish, of all people, got on to the quickly returned ball, rounded Jack and slotted into the empty net.
There's a lesson to be learned there...

From this graphic, Jack's starting position was far from the halfway line. Attachments:

Say what you like Phil, he started at the half-day line and was scurrying back, never reaching the box. My point is, he got caught out because he'd needlessly pushed up too high.

I feel like jack did the best thing in the situation. as we all know hisham is blessed with some tremendous pace and is great at finishing 1 on 1. The easiest way to prevent this is to stop the through pass happening or to stop the ball reaching kasimu. jack tried to do the latter but wasn’t quite quick enough. in my mind this wasn’t an individual mistake from jack. it’s the fact we had the ball in the sutton half and we’ve been done so easily by a counter. but i’d much rather this happen in pre season rather than on the 5th of august and onwards.

Yesterday's goals from Sutton utd YouTube channel. I didn’t think at the time Alfie got a touch, Reggie’s goal via the deflection.

Sutton goal was almost a carbon copy of Franny Amarteys against them in the FA Cup

Still difficult to tell on the video. Alfie put a boot out alright, but did he get a touch? Pure instinct if he did, and a real poachers goal, which is great!
I still think it was white in off the green which counts four!!, so we won 4-1, I reckon!!
Whatever, good effort from the boys and a pretty decent result, and a lesson for Jack!! Don't push your luck mate!!
On to Friday, in our shiny new kit!!
COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!

Alfie definitely didn't score on Saturday. I was behind the goal. Reggie's shot was deflected before it was anywhere near Alfie. He was behind the defender it went in off.

I was in the top of the stand and was confused when Alfie was given the goal from where I was sat Reggie smashed it and it smashed the Sutton players thigh and went in.

Pure instinct if he did, and a real poachers goal, which is great! He's nowhere near the ball here and has been credited with a goal... that's next level poaching, to be fair!

As long as he keeps poaching them, it's fine by me!!
I don't care where the goals come from, as long as they do!!!

We announced Alfie as the goal scorer as from our end of the main stand, it looked like it came off him. I received a call from the bench to say that it definitely was Reggie's deflected goal, but we were in the middle of a whole host of substitutions, trying to figure out on and off's and by the time we finished that, the moment had gone. I'm not sure just by incorrectly announcing it, that Alfie has been credited the goal. There's no official recording of such things for pre-season friendlies.
