Re: Hants FA decide to devalue their own competition
Post by CH » Wed Apr 19, 2023 9:34 am
A fan I was speaking to last night suggested that the decision might possibly have had a little bit to do with where the Hants FA are based and the decision this season to play the final at the home of one of the finalists.
Not suggesting anything untoward however, but I'm sure you'll make the link.
And so say all of us!!

Just noticed the HSC final is now being played at Fratton Park, Portsmouth on Wednesday 10th May.
It was previously listed on the Hampshire FA website as scheduled to be played at the finalists 'Home Team' ground which I believe is Basingstoke?
Winklebury sports complex has a 2k capacity.
Fratton Park has a 21k capacity and is 40 miles from Winklebury.
Last seasons attendance at the final between Farnborough and Eastleigh was just over 900.
I guess now Eastleigh are out they're not interested in hosting such a prestigious event and Hampshire FA are expecting a crowd of over 2k... but are there any other alternatives to Fratton Park all the way down on the coast. Venues nearer to the hosts perhaps?
I can think of a couple.
Cherrywood Road has a 7k capacity and is 18 miles from Basingstoke Town FC at Winklebury sports complex. The Rec has a 7k capacity and is just under 18 miles from Basingstoke Town FC at Winklebury sports complex.
Wonder how much the Hampshire FA are spending to hire out Fratton Park!

They won't come here after last seasons furore, and the debacle this time!!
Hope the Blazers enjoy the Pompey high life!
Saying that, we did play there once as well!

Who cares? The Hampshire FA have shown their incompetence and they can pay the price for it.
Who cares where it's being held? They caused their own downfall.

Fratton Park was announced yonks ago. Please do keep up before posting the childish rants about the Hampshire FA. I’m no fan of them, but we got caught out in this competition through naive incompetence, and not for the first time. Grow up guys and let it go and concede we are effing useless at admin at times.

I'm just amazed the Senior Cup final venue is, erm, going to be held at the ground of a senior club, after years of faffing around due to not having the money. Even opening one tier of the main stand at Pompey costs. So perhaps the blazers have calculated the Blazingstoke Massive will turn up in enough numbers to pay the bills? Because I'm struggling to imagine how many Bournemouth fans will turn up - I suspect only family and friends of the players will bother.

Perhaps this is why the Hants FA dropped Havant & Waterlooville's venue from their considerations. Perhaps Pompey will have better security on hand to control brain-dead idiots? Eek!

We did play at Pompey in an HSC Final once, I recall! Can't remember who against though.
I just remember Murray Jones?? and one of their blokes tanking in to a tackle, at exactly the same time hitting the ball like two rutting stags, which ceremoniously burst with a huge bang. Never seen anything like it!!
