Here is a list of all successful/non-successful penalties in the league this season. Brace yourself, it makes for grim reading.
Farnborough 1-1 Dulwich Hamlet (Tony Lee converted penalty) Farnborough 0-1 Chelmsford City (Hisham Kasimu missed penalty) Worthing 1-2 Farnborough (Jon Page missed penalty) Dover 1-1 Farnborough (JNW missed penalty) Farnborough 2-2 HRB (Hisham Kasimu converted penalty) Farnborough 2-1 Hungerford (Hisham Kasimu and Oliver Pendlebury missed penalties) Dulwich Hamlet 1-4 Farnborough (JNW converted penalty) Concord 0-1 Farnborough (Mason Bloomfield converted penalty) Farnborough 3-0 Cheshunt (Mason Bloomfield missed two penalties) Farnborough 0-0 Welling (JNW missed penalty) Farnborough 1-2 Tonbridge Angels (Ricky Holmes missed penalty)
That is four goals from thirteen spot kicks, excluding Braintree in the Trophy.
If the other nine goals had gone in, we would have had:
2 more draw 2 more wins As a result, 8 more points.
That means we would be sat in sixth place currently. Look how much of a difference it makes when you add it all up! Spencer was right when he said it costs us!

Good work Tom.
I'll say it again, strikers - scoring goals is what you're paid to do. Step up and be counted...

On the radio commentary they were saying that CJ was showing the others how to take penalties at half time v Oxford City. He scored top left every time. Why doesn't he take them!?

Interesting stats. Can't expect to score everyone but expect at least a 50% conversion.
Even scoring the one last night leaves us 4 points of playoffs with 3 games in hand. In our current form 6 points of 3 games could be tough to close the gap.

Hopefully Spencer picked up on that. But how often do you see a midfielder taking penalties in a game? Or defender in a lot of our cases? Most of our penalties have been scored by strikers, funny that! I know Bloomfield's out but we could maybe give Chike a go, perhaps? Just a suggestion.

The best penalty takes I've seen in my time at the Boro were both full backs - Richard Walden and Mark Turkington (though Turks could play in midfield too). I don't recall either of them missing one!

Interesting that Chike actually picked the ball up, while the melee was going on with the Welling boys surrounding the ref. He walked towards the spot and Jordan took it off him!!

A wee bit of nous can work well.
When a team has surrounded the ref bent on delaying a penalty kick a nominated Boro' player should put the ball on the spot and just stand there taking all the abuse etc. Once the referee has eventually restored order, the oppo have been shooed out the area and the goalkeeper is in position, the Boro' player simply walks away to let the actual penalty taker take over.

It's beyond ridiculous or statistics.
I reckon there's a Voodoo curse on our penalty spots. Please bring in a witch doctor, or a priest to exorcise the curse and cleanse our 'spots'!
Alternatively, dig the buggers up and replace them with new sanctified turf...

Was it the usual bottom left again tonight?

Yes, although describing it as 'bottom left' is being very generous - it was low and left (about a metre or so from centre), but slow and nowhere near the post so the keeper kicked it clear with his trailing leg.

Training tip: Watch last weekend's Man U vs Brighton FA Cup Semi-Final penalty shoot-out (apart from the last one...) for how to take pens. Repeat....
