Those of a certain age will be saddened to hear of the passing of two of sports greatest commentators and presenters.
John Motson and Dickie Davies.
Both true legends of sport and sadly missed.
R.I.P.

A great Dickie Davies story. He was working as a continuity announcer at Southern Television and had to read out the late night weather forecast. No computer graphics in those days, behind him was a map of the South with various symbols and letters stuck to it. Unfortunately, one of the letters had fallen off the map. Davies didn't miss a beat and said: "I'm so sorry about the "F" in "FOG"." Then he realised what he'd just said. RIP Dicky, and Motty

Sadly Bob I am now of that certain age. Motty was football. Someone described him as a fan with a microphone. That sums him up very well.
So many iconic commentaries.
As for Dickie Davies Nigel, another old school stalwart with a great sense of humour. The f in fog story is very funny. Right up there with his live mispronunciation of Cup Soccer. 😀
Sad to lose both but they have left great memories.

If only we could all get a sheepskin coat for a fitting tribute on Saturday...
RIP Motty - the soundtrack of my football years.

I think it was Dickie who said after reading one football result: "There'll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight" - not knowing there is no such place and Raith Rovers are actually based in a plaed called Kircaldy!
