My thoughts go out to Bath City striker Alex Fletcher who was injured this evening following what the Bath City Twitter account described as "a collision with the advertising hoarding". The match, rightly, and understandably, has been abandoned and will be played at a later date. I wish him a speedy recovery.

This accident shows what footballers at our level could occur when playing the game we all love :-(
Alex Fletcher has a squad number of 7.
Can the Boro fans show appreciation for him and that hes in the thoughts of the footballing community in the 7th min on Saturday...

Naturally this was discussed on the Non League Show today and elsewhere - the consensus seems to be that misreporting of the event has not been helpful... It was widely reported he 'hit the pitchside advertising hoardings', which is totally inaccurate; running at full speed he slipped and went head-first into the concrete wall that surrounds the pitch - there are no 'advertising hoardings' there.
Having a concrete wall around the pitch so close to the edge was an accident waiting to happen and it was only a matter of time following the law of averages until something did... And a massive shame it did, especially in the nature of the accident. It may be a case of the games are being postponed whilst the club looks at what it can do to get rid of the wall, or pad it.

Ooh that sounds, hope the guy recovers soon and best wishes to him, his family, and all at Bath City. I've been to Bath many times but don't recall seeing a wall at the end of the ground!!, but it is built on a hill, so maybe it's part of the strengthening of it!!
There are other grounds with similar problems as that, Welling being a prime example with a flintstone wall behind the top goal, and I remember one of our guys smashing his hands on it a few years back!! Hope they have sorted something by now!
Gravesend/Ebbsfleet also had a stone wall behind the visitors end goal, and the terraces started about three feet above that, which I always thought was an accident waiting to happen!!
Ground grading officials will now, hopefully, take these sort of things in to consideration with their 'annual'?? visits!

Welling have closed that open terrace as it's unsafe for ... spectators. Still as dangerous as ever for players.
