I hope the club are watching with interest the current goings on at the recreation ground in their quest to redevelopment. It seems they are pretty confident of building houses on land they don't own and the council will give them all the profit to invest in the ground. I didn't agree with a lot of what lord westley tried to do but wasn't this similar to the plan he had for the new ground he wanted by junction 4a, the council said no.

I figure, but I could be wrong, that Wates have, or are in the process of, purchasing the old Telecoms building beside the Rec, and probably the land further up the hill and around the old tennis court area behind the East bank.
That will give them a fair bit of land to build on but, unless they decide to convert the Telecoms building in to flats, it will mean considerable demolition work, which could impinge on the side of the Shots ground, and they may also need some of the land currently occupied by the Shots, hence the sweetener to RBC of offering to assist with development of the Club on that side.
It has to be on that side, bearing in mind the railway on the other side, and the road at the front.
Whatever, it only states planning permission will be sought in 2023, after lengthy consultations.
Submitted plans will then go through various committees and agencies before being confirmed, and then some considerable time after that before the first diggers arrive. So, as good as it may seem, it ain't going to happen overnight!!
I hope they have also learned from the debacle of the Woking development plans, and local opposition?
The Shots though have far more important matters to hand in keeping their League position and, it may well be that by the time any development work begins, large or small, the Club may not need it!! (Who said this was 'politically' put out at a difficult time to appease angry supporters?, I couldn't possibly comment!!)
RBC are obviously keenly involved so as to keep up their allotted housing requirements imposed by the government.
The land around, and the land currently used by the football Club, is theirs/ours, after all!!
Lets hope RBC are just as cooperative to any proposals put to them by the Farnborough FC Owners??

Lets hope RBC are just as cooperative to any proposals put to them by the Farnborough FC Owners?? I'm old enough to remember a similar scheme for our ground being pushed forward by one Spencer Day. We had presentations from smooth-tongued property developer types and everything. However, the local authority saw the move for what it was and declined to play ball. And here we are.
