My SiL is a paramedic so was told she would be required on the Sunday but I guess there will be some other events that day.

News websites are now pointing towards the Monday as the date of the funeral. So I'll guess we'll go ahead on the 17th (subject to the likes of the Daily Mail whipping up excruciatingly dull us/them stuff, which is what what they did when Diana died, when everything got cancelled until its editor gave the go-ahead that we could live normal lives again). That led to hysterical gibberish and I like the idea the Queen would have been appalled by it. The whole idea of our monarchy is a continuity that is above political rivalries, vested interests and attention seekers trying to get into the spotlight. The Queen pointed towards this numerous times. She was right, and the principle holds good today. Of course we should pay due homage to a much-loved leader of our country, who, for most of us, has been ever-present throughout our lives. But, as well as being an end of an era, it is a new beginning. Let's grab that and make the best of it.

Well said Nigel… Ever considered a career in politics yourself as that makes far more sense than the hand-wringing flag-shagging indulged by those who currently pull the strings!

Still some discussion as to next weekends fixtures, as Police numbers would be reduced due to crowd control at gatherings prior to the funeral!
Can see how that might affect PL, Championship and EFL games, plus bigger NL games.
Don't think it would cause any problems with our game though, but we have to wait for the FA/League's direction.
My two pennyworth says we should play, with the usual armbands and silence, in respect, prior to the kick off.
We still have the Tonbridge game on Tuesday to think about before that though!!!
COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!
