This may turn onto a fiasco. Given the Government's view that COVID19 is taking a break over Christmas the chances are more stringent restrictions will be introduced from mid-January.

I'm of the opinion that you play when you can provided the oppo are willing to play too, which is the approach being taken by several feeder leagues in the south. Play as many games as practicable in the circumstances and review where we've got to later in the winter.

As it's been decided this is not going to happen at Steps 3/4, players will now have a gap of at least seven weeks between games. It's one thing for players to regain their match fitness on warm summer evenings, quite another on freezing cold nights. A four week gap between games in late autumn would have been manageable, but a seven+ week gap extending into midwinter? Not so much.

A much fuller statement from the Southern League. So "a substantial number" IS the majority. Why pussyfoot about it?

It wouldn't be a surprise if there is now an exodus of non-contract players to Step 5 clubs in Tier 1 and 2 areas.
