From NLM, here are the current projections for next season. Step 2 - www.google.com/maps/d/u/2/edit?mid=1u6aAx6tpXh_RKPFTgzEQRfJUCsBkGEgPromotions to us would be Chesham, Chatham, Salisbury and Hornchurch with Oxford City and Woking being relegated (this was clearly made before last night as it's currently Dorking instead of Woking) That likely means that our festive double would perhaps be with one of the West London sides. One note in Step 4, Evesham to Mousehole is a 476 mile round trip! Someone has to go there I suppose!

Basing the National relegations as at present is as you say, but should York (new Manager) and Kidderminster (recent new Manager) put a few wins together there is a distinct possibility of any four of Oxford,Dorking,Woking,Maidenhead,Wealdstone,Ebbsfleet and even Boreham Wood, dropping in to National South
Oxford would be put North obviously and probably Boreham Wood if they drop, but the if any of the others finish in the bottom four the AGM cup would be very interesting!!
Chelmsford, Braintree, St Albans must be bricking it!!

The Finnish 4th tier splits into 3, N, SE and SW. Supposed to be 10 teams in each league, but for 2024 the SW will have 11 because if a team had been moved to the north they'd have some 300+ mile away trips.
Although in the 7th tier North, where the players will pay to pay (they really are football clubs in terms of membership and not just in name), clubs sre travelling 250 miles + across Lapland.

Chelmsford, Braintree, St Albans must be bricking it!! There is no way Boreham Wood would end-up in National North, given they are located 8 miles south of St Albans City and Hemel Hempstead Town. If it all goes pear-shaped and southern clubs need to be placed in National North, the candidates (in order of most northern first) would be:- 51.8759N - Braintree Town* 51.7740N - Oxford City (potential relegation from National Division) 51.7543N - St Albans City* 51.7539N - Hemel Hempstead Town (outsiders for relegation from National South given their recent dismal results) 51.7532N - Chelmsford City* 51.7509N - Merthyr Town (potential promotion from Southern League Premier South) 51.6991N - Chesham United (potential promotion from Southern League Premier South) * National South promotion candidate If Oxford City are relegated and Merthyr Town promoted I'd imagine both may be "persuaded" to head North, despite the latter's location being further south than four Home Counties National South clubs.

Doing a quick look at the map. Worthing is the one that seems lonely. Rough calculations for Boxing Day would look like this.
Truro v Torquay Weston v Taunton Weymouth v Salisbury Bath v Chippenham Oxford City v Slough Chesham v Hampton Farnborough v Woking Hornchurch v Braintree Aveley v Dartford Tonbridge v Worthing Maidstone v Chatham
Forgot St Albans v Hemel Hempstead
Possibly mean that we would play teams west of us again midweek. Lots of things to happen between now and April 27

The bit I find interesting is, if it "goes wrong" at National Division level, Braintree would need to win the play-offs to avoid heading North.
No pressure lads!

Possibly mean that we would play teams west of us again midweek. Lots of things to happen between now and April 27 The solution then is to front load the fixtures to make it slightly easier, and also prioritise scheduling the Tuesday night fixtures and winter fixtures first, so that it's fair for everyone. Spencer would be raging if we had the majority of Torquay, Chippenham and Yeovil midweek again! If Woking do come down, then put them on Boxing Day and then have Tuesday with Slough, HRB, Hemel, Stale Buns, etc. Those that are closer and easier to get to.

You're missing the geography of the league again Tom.
7 teams to the west of Farnborough, they have to play teams midweek that is logistical to get there midweek. Truro are due to be back in Cornwall.
The Saturday matches should be that the furthest away in distance go there. You can't expect scheduled fixtures like Chatham v Torquay to be midweek.
I expect that if it is that prediction for next season, then Farnborough will have at least two if those midweek.

But there are 7? Teams clearly a lot further west than the others. Truro, Torquay, Taunton, Weston, Bath, Chippenham and Weymouth. Surely that's enough to cover midweek schedule matches and Christmas/boxing day?

Hush now with your logic and common sense, we all know that has no part in fixture selection!

Surely that's enough to cover midweek schedule matches and Christmas/boxing day? (I'm assuming Yeovil are promoted and the other 7 western clubs remain in the division) Next season, each of the 7 western clubs will have to play the other 6 twice, so 12 fixtures. Taking away Xmas/New Year, the August Bank Holiday Monday and Easter, that leaves 7 local fixtures. However National South have to schedule 9 more midweek fixture dates to accommodate a 46 game season*, while there will be other games rearranged for midweek because of postponements. This makes it impossible for midweek fixtures to be exclusively a mini-league between the western clubs. And, as there'll be 7 of them, one will have to play a team that is not local in each midweek fixture round (obviously this could be at home or away). So, the odds are we'll be heading west in midweek more than once next season. *This season, the midweek dates were/are 15 Aug, 5 Sep, 24 Oct, 7 Nov, 14 Nov, 21 Nov, 23 Jan, 20 Feb and 12 Mar. There's an argument some of these dates could be moved ahead of National South clubs entering the FA Cup (16 Sep this season) to avoid having 3 midweek games in successive weeks in November.

Oxford will always go north due to their proximatey to the M40 and how much easier it is to get to the clubs up the M6 and M42/M1
Much easier than those in Essex.
Just done the quick map drawing and only 6 teams to the west of Farnborough, expect some long trips to Devon and Cornwall midweek.
Boxing Day
Truro v Torquay Weston v Bath Chippenham v Slough Weymouth v Gosport Chesham v Boreham Wood Farnborough v Hampton Dorking v Tonbridge Worthing v Eastbourne Maidstone v Chatham Braintree v Welling Hornchurch v Aveley Hemel Hempstead v St Albans
Have a look at Southern League Div 1 South. AFC Stoneham relishing the trips to Mousehole, Falmouth and Helston
