The whole Chorley FC/ Boyzone thing going on on the TV and in the news... Some deeper context on this.
HMRC served a winding-up petition on the club at the start of the week, basically for continual non-payment of PAYE & VAT. This has triggered and automatic transfer embargo on the club from the FA.

Last summer the previous owners of 30 years or so sold-out to a bunch of guys who own a 'luxury vodka brand' and marketing agency that no-one has ever heard of. They have no real discernible presence or tangible sign of a genuine source of their funds... Seems the reality is they are a bunch of crypto bro scammers and they are rapidly running out of cash.
Official club line on the HMRC was at first a denial and now it is just a 'clerical error' in other words they failed to file returns on time for VAT/ PAYE triggering the automatic response from HMRC & the FA on the back of that... Thing is its not missing a deadline for one return that causes this, it goes a bit deeper and the petition has been lodged in the court with a hearing date.
Quite a few panicking fans genuinely concerned that there may not be a club next season, or if it does make it, a repeat of Droylsden a few seasons ago in the NPL when the cash ran out a few games in and they had to stagger through the season with the youth team and being trounced each week.
Looking like it will be a bumper crowd tomorrow for Chorley with the Boyzone thing what with them attending and hopefully a win through to the next round of the Trophy. The selling a stake to Boyzone is a desperate last throw of the dice to get some cash into the club and quick to avoid it going tits-up quite spectacularly and imminently and there seems to be no plan-b!

To be fair to the owners, they have zero to do with the football side and have brought Jamie Vermiglio - former manager during their FA Cup run a few years ago back in as Chairman and he runs all football operations, however the issue is nothing to do with what is going on on the pitch.
This could all turn into a salutary lesson in some fans wishing for new owners as what you get is not always the knight on his white steed, but a crook on a hobby horse!
