Neil Baker comes home!
#FarnboroughFC are delighted to announce the return of Neil Baker who joins Spencer Day's First Team Management group.
Great news, and welcome home bakes!! A Borough man through and through, as was his famous Dad Keith. A man that also knows football at this level, having managed Slough for so many years at National and National South levels.
Now we have the 'Baker Boys' show with Neil alongside Steve with Ricky!
Could this also possibly be the initial step towards Spencer moving upstairs, to allow the boys to get on with team matters??
COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!

Very much doubt it.
Hopefully Neil can help us get the ball down.
Spencer was delusional in his interview, nearly spat my tea out when he said we passed the ball well. Must have got us mixed up with St Albans, who passed the ball well.
And was that the same Partington that looked completely finished for us!

Partington was easily the Stale Buns MOTM when they played us at the San Cherryo the week after he left us and probably the MOTM overall, so I suspect this was more of the same with his performance? With Neil Baker returning, if it heralds an upturn in our fortunes, then the management team below Spencer will end up as the 'Fabulous Baker Boys'... If we get Michelle Pfeiffer singing on a piano then it really gets my vote!

Partington was easily the best defender today, and when they visited, because he was played in his proper place at centre half, NOT right back!! Despite what everyone was saying, there was still the insistence of a back three of Partington, Robbo and Ball, which just didn't work, but was never changed, Partington was just shipped out!!

Welcome back Neil. Here comes the big but.
Is he on the payroll. Is he better than Ricky or Steve. How many coaches do you need to coach a squad that today fielded 14 with 4 of those on loan.
How many teams in the National south playing today had just 3 players on their bench?
So with Spencer and the goalkeeper coach(don't let him go) I make that 5 coaches.
Ps just to shoot my own post down in flames I see Taunton only had 2 on the bench including a goalie.

I don't count Spencer as a coach, and allegedly he doesn't take a wage, but I agree we do now look top heavy on the Management front.
If it becomes a situation whereby Spencer finds the players, which he seems very good at, and then hands them over, primarily to Neil and Steve, with Ricky's assistance, then fine it could work out well.
Neil has great experience with Managing at National and National South, so I hoping that it could well be of benefit in the future, IF they are allowed to do their job??

I'd definitely be keeping some of you away from rope and sharp knives on this forum. This is a positive move by the club and spencer, I've known about the possibility for a while and that Neil has been helping out behind the scenes. I remember Harry Redknapp saying once that sometimes you change the voices not the players. Keith will be smiling up in the sky

I remember Harry Redknapp saying once that sometimes you change the voices not the players. Keith will be smiling up in the sky Couldn’t agree more. Any move the club makes seems to be torn apart unless it’s a star signing. Unless people are privy to salaries of every player and coach why do we keep bringing up that point. I don’t think the powers that be will be blowing a budget on a management team. 3 players on the bench yesterday was due to injuries. And looking at our players that are out on loan, Perez doesn’t seem to be playing (says it all) and Mekki wasn’t even in the 16 yesterday! The fact we’ve had two players sign in a week, plus this illusive right back suggests Spencer is doing what he can to get players in. Let’s not forget 3 years ago (20/21 season) the season had already ended, and the season before we were a mid table step 3 side. We are now a mid table step 2 side that yes is inconsistent and may not be pushing, but surely right now we want stability in the league while we push onwards and bringing bigger crowds in as well as finance and sponsorship. It’s only our second season back. Or would you rather the club internally destroy itself? Neil joining suggests that we are looking in the right direction. Romanticism aside he’s an experienced step 2 manager and so getting that experience in is going to be invaluable for the rest of this season and hopefully next. Good luck Neil!

Haven't West ham under Moyes had previous managers in he's squad management. And look how there doing. It just seems with supporters what ever Spencer and the club try and do someone will moan about it.
It will get to the point one day Spencer will be like F### this and walk away. All knowing he's put the money In the club.

Neil is an excellent appointment and sometimes a fresh pair of eyes is exactly what is needed.
But you can't please everyone. Simple as that. If you work in hospitality or customer service it becomes quickly apparent!
I remember being on the 50/50 stall a few years ago, with an away fan asking us for programmes, which always happens, but as we said they were sold out, he said "Every bloody time I come to Farnborough they run out of programmes".
And off he went.
But that's going off topic slightly. The point I'm making is that, even with the most positive of news, someone will find a negative part about it. It's a shame, and we have to find that balance between wanting the club to progress and being realistic about where we are.
The way I see it, Neil is the next piece of the puzzle.
Come on Boro!

Ginger: I remember Harry Redknapp saying once that sometimes you change the voices not the players. Keith will be smiling up in the sky
Absolutely correct Ginger, and I fully agree with you. It's something I have been posting about for some time.
I fully support what Spencer and Rob have done for the Club, and hope they continue to do so for some time to come, and we probably wouldn't have a club of this standing without them.
I have long felt that Spencer has excellent contacts and finds some very good rabbits out of 'the magic hat' as we say, but it also seems fairly evident, from a personal point of view, that he has run out of steam and needs some assistance with team matters.
The appointment of Neil is a superb move, a very popular choice among supporters, and can only be a benefit to Spencer and the Club.
Welcome back Neil. As Ginger said, your Dad would be so proud of you!!

This is a forum to air views.I just questioned wether with a small squad we need another coach. No criticism of the current set up at all.I think they do a great job.You only have to look at the way Hish improved with Ricky and the improvement in Selim and JT. As a club we are definitely punching above our weight.Look at Taunton citing cashflow problems this week to see how perilous finances are in non league. We can't compete financially with most of the clubs in our league but we more than hold our own on home match days with the great facilities we have.Thats down to Spencer,Simon and all the staff and volunteers.

They're already planning their trip to the San Cherrio next season and expecting their owners to cut and run. For me, the frustration is that we sign decent players, completely fail to get the best from them, then as soon as they leave they become brilliant again (see: Partington, Hall). Let's hope Neil can help with that.

Let's hope Neil can help with that. Partington who the St Albans fans were telling me has been average, and Connor hall has been away for only two games - had one great game (unless you went to the brackley game at the weekend and tell me different as he didn’t score). So Pavey who’s been struggling the last couple of years comes and does well, Lokko last year came down and did well. Freddie Grant did well (proven step 2), Jack turner has had plenty of step 2 experience aswell, he’s not failed. Ricky Holmes, Sam Deering in promotion season, shall I continue? You’ve literally named two players. We are never going to get players in their prime unless this is the best level they can be at. People need to try and see the positives sometimes.

Look closely when we played St Albans at home, after Partington had gone there. Playing at centre back, he didn't cover himself in glory for either of our goals. YouTube videos are available.
As St Albans are very good at posting match videos online, I've watched a fair few of their match highlights since then. He cannot match the quicker forwards not because he isn't any good, but, unfortunately for him, he doesn't have the legs anymore. A harsh verdict? Maybe, but football is a very unforgiving game.
