I wanted to share a post I saw on Facebook today regarding the new deal with television rights for the Premier League, worth £6.7bn over four years.
From David Pearce, a Farsley Celtic fan, on Facebook.
"The Premier League just has agreed a new record £6.7bn four year domestic television deal for Sky and TNT to show up to 270 live games a season.
Now, I know my maths isn't that good but.....
That's £6,700,000,000 for the 20 Clubs over 4 years....
That's £83,750,000 for each Premier League Club, every year just from Sky and TNT.
Now at Farsley, our average attendance is about 450 at home and maybe we play 25 games at home each season.....as we know a fair proportion of those 450 don't pay at all, so maybe our take on the gate is in the region of £3500 per game......I would love to be corrected on this...
So, for a small Club like ours our annual gate receipts would be in the region of £87,500. Our income from TV rights is not enormous...
It would take Farsley 957 years worth of gate receipts to equal the TV money received each season by each individual Premier League Club.......almost a thousand years!!!
957 years ago, in the fateful year 1066, the Normans conquered Britain, created a feudal system which for almost a thousand years has kept the rich rich and the poor poor.
It's so reassuring to see that Sky and TNT have exactly the same view of the footballing nation as those invading ba+tards from Normandy had of the English people in 1066.
When the monstrosity of the Premier League was created in 1992 and established as a limited company, the football world was promised that a significant share of it's great wealth would be shared throughout the football family and trickle down through the pyramid to benefit the game at all levels......
It was then, and it clearly remains as the greatest lie of our time....."
I will be very intrigued to see what happens when the independent regulator comes in.
