I only listened on the commentary - but we sounded absolutely toothless. Keen to hear the thoughts of those that traveled

Hmmm.
If you pictured "First game of the season" that's exactly what it was like.
A very cagey first half with little in it. Their goal came from when one of our defenders (I think it was Ball) tackled Mills, who had a shot, Jack got a strong had but not enough to keep it out.
They very nearly conceded an own goal after the ball was headed backwards and the keeper missed it, meaning it nearly rolled over the line.
Jordan was my MOTM, worked so hard up and down that wing, as did Reggie and Adam Mekki.
Michael Folivi played well up front, and we had some good chances, but at times he wasted them by unnecessarily throwing himself to the floor a lot of the time when we could have had a chance.
The chances that we did have, which were few and far between (I think we lacked a lot of communication) were decent but pretty easily dealt with. Sometimes though, they weren't necessarily helped by the referee. One time there was a foul given in our favour in midfield, while we were clear through on goal? What happened to giving advantage?
I think, though, I'm trying to make up excuses for what was a highly forgettable match in extremely changeable conditions.

To lighten things up a little bit, we didn't have the worst game of the day. League One Port Vale started off with a 7-0 loss away! Notts County and Wrexham also had some interesting results!

A 0-0 draw would have been about right. Neither side really looked like scoring.
Their goal on the stroke of half time was pretty fortunate, as soon as it went in though, it had the feel of that was going to be it, and so it proved.
Same story as last season with regards to incompetent reffing. He gave everything Chelmsfords way (their 12 kept throwing himself to the floor and got the foul every single time), until about the 70th minute when Cullen was played clean through on goal, only for the whistle to be blown and the foul we didn’t want was awarded, stopping what seemed would be an almost certain goal🤦🏻♂️ Diabolical refereeing, as Spencer said it was a game changing decision that he got totally wrong. One of those where it can only be put down to absolute incompetence or cheating. Hope we don’t see him again this season.
Looking at the positives we looked very organised and far bigger and stronger than last season. The attacking side of things didn’t really click today but it’s very early days and I’m sure it will only be a matter of time until we are firing on all cylinders. Roll on next Saturday…..

Early days, I know, but I couldn't quite make my mind up yesterday as to what formation we were actually playing!
Seemed to start as: Back four of Nelson, Partington, Ball, Norville MF of Mekki, Perez, Upward F of Folivi Pavey Young
It frequently changed to a back three when Jordan pushed forward on his charges.
Saying that, Jordan and Reggie had some superb link ups down the left, and both had excellent games, again, pushing forward, causing all sorts of havoc for Chelmo! We didn't though have the same penetration down the right!!
I've never been happy with a back three, it creates a lot of space behind it for the opposition to exploit, and Mills (11) on the left for them was totally controlling the game, but we didn't close him down enough, or even get close!!
Sid is obviously a good solid defender, but the speed isn't there on the right, and the same with Ball and Mekki!! so the game was very lopsided. Not helped by the monsoon of course, so a bit of leniency on my part.
Changed a bit when Robbo came on for Sid (Injury), and Connor for Folivi (another injury) and Connor was extremely unlucky, when clean through, to be pulled back by the Ref for a free kick to us back in the centre circle!!
I know it ain't gonna happen, but oh for a marauding JO and SS down the right flank!!
And I know we have Pavey and Folivi up front, but please lets not start the big ooof forward stuff again eh?? Their six foot four guy at 5 had a field day!!
No panic yet though. On to Saturday, and decent weather we hope!!
COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!
