Unlucky boro. Undone by one chance. Played well, probably needed a little bit naive in final third..
One that got away

A very entertaining game with multiple chances either end.
No hesitation from the get-go whatsoever, and a very lively start from both sides.
One of the first chances we had was when Connor headed the ball onto the post from an inswinging corner, and then a few minutes later he was scrambling for the ball and feeding Sealey Harris through. Once again, tackled by the defender who went down due to the tackle but thankfully is ok.
We gradually grew more confident as the first half went on, constantly attacking Tonbridge's defence. However they had their chances too, trying to test our back four. Each team had a very strong defensive line in the first 45, and when Tonbridge did get past us, Beachy saved everything with confidence.
One criticism I would have is that, when Beach was taking a goal kick, all of our players were compact into one small area on the wings of the pitch. At least spread out a bit!
The second half was different.
Tonbridge started off strong in the second half, and we quickly paid the price. A cross came in from one of their players, and was headed on a few yards away from the post. Beach couldn’t get to it and was then headed in. 0-1. At this point some of the fans at the opposite started hurling abuse at someone (not sure why).
The game then continued at a similar tempo as it did for the first half, with us getting past the Tonbridge defence a few more times but unfortunately not scoring. They did the same to us but Liam managed to save the rest of the chances they threw at him, including a horrendous error from CJ.
Despite the scoreline, it was an entertaining game overall. We have Wimborne midweek, let’s see what that throws up.

Yes, we played well, but just lacked that thrust up front, and deserved better. A J was well shackled throughout and they doubled up on him. Home work done obviously.
A real scabby goal for them, but they all count I suppose, and apart from the two quick lads up front, the Angels weren't really that good!!
So hard lines Boro, it is getting better, so on to Wimbourne on Wednesday.

For what it's worth I think we were the better team today overall, we just don't seem able to hit the back of the old onion sack. We are improving with every game and it will come good soon.

In his post match interview Spencer bemoans that we didn't quite have the quality to keep us in it. If he is fit, I'd love to see Assidjo start to see if he has some of what's missing? We won't find out whilst he's sat on the bench for 79 mins....

What we really need is an experienced Target Man up front who can hold the ball up and be a bit physical to create space for AJ and Connor to run into. I still don't get why Pearce was launching the throw ons into the box when Tonbridge's Centre Backs were 6ft plus and mopping up the headers. If someone had said to me before the game that we would lose 0-1 I'd have happily taken that given out start to the season but I found myself disappointed after the game as we at least deserved to go to pens. Now onto the so called B Squad, something needs to be done with these kids before things really get out of hand and they start to cost the club money in fines and give the club a bad name which so many people have worked hard over the years to repair.

I too, was disappointed with the result, but very pleased with the overall effort from the lads, and the fact that we pushed a very strong team from a League above all the way, and certainly deserved something from it, but that's football.
Regarding the new young contingent that has emerged recently, it's great to see and hear the PRE singing and chanting again, which certainly improves the atmosphere, and we should welcome it.
It has grown steadily over the last few games, and Saturday was definitely the largest gathering of them.
I wonder though if this is a migration from the other end of Rushmoor, which currently is unable to provide accommodation at matches at present?
It's good to see younger, vocal, support and hopefully we can keep them with Boro, but most certainly there is a need to keep a tighter control on language and attitudes before it gets out of control, if that is at all possible with youngsters these days!!
Mind you, the much older bloke(s) that appeared to bait them when Tonbridge scored, were just as stupid as the lads that charged towards them, and were rightly removed by Safety Officers!!
