Roll on Yate midweek. The less said about this the better.

We seem to have a long run of losses at some point every season. Let's hope we're just getting it out of the way early.

Problem is the league will be settled on PPG if not completed - all agreed before the season kicked-off, so if things go tits-up Covid-wise and the league is stopped, then we could easily be the one going down: You need points on the board as early as possible this season as an insurance policy.

Well following previous season patterns we tend to not start the season properly until a few months after the official date

One side was playing tippy-tappy youth football, one wasn't. The one that didn't won 4-0 at a canter.
Yes, we are a young team without much ringcraft, but easy heavy losses like this ought to stand up those still in a teenagers' mindset to work out they ain't playing U18s anymore. Gosport played well-drilled adult football. We didn't.
It didn't help that a wee bit of pressure on the ball caused callow Boro' defenders to panic, with disastrous consequences for three of the goals. Nor did it help that we were absolutely roasted down both wings while, in the centre of defence, not only was there no pace there was no sign of anyone dropping off to protect their partner. Our flat backline was an open invitation that Gosport gratefully accepted.
Gosport were solid, if nothing special, but they worked us out very quickly.
I assume we have one training session before the Yate game on Wednesday. It had better be good in handing out some home truths to the youngsters who might think they personally did ok despite the team getting whipped 4-0. I don't much care about those claiming they put in a good personal performance despite being dicked. I do care about the simple question, did we win, or not? Where were you?

It's good to see we've recognised the fact that the team is young and inexperienced by release Fitz because we really don't need experienced players at this stage.

It seems to me that this is a similar pattern each season. Spencer and Jon put together a team of promising skilful youngsters, but we often get bullied out of games by bigger / physically stronger teams. A couple of big experienced players make all the difference in a competitive league. Francis and Howe showed what I mean last season.
