Pleased for Merthyr, and their fans, none of it is their fault anyway.
I have always assumed that only two would drop from this League anyway, with three coming in to fill the vacancies, which is still the case providing, as you say, that no one else resigns or worse!
We just have to find the wherewithal to finish out of the danger area!! Not an easy task looking at recent performances!!
This is Farnborough though, normal pattern : crap until Christmas then find the necessary to lift us out of the poo!!

Bob, you're forgetting that promotion and relegation spots are shared across the 4 divisions. Merthyr are being removed and having played no games it's going to be as if they were never in the division. So three teams from our league may still go down. In fact as it will be based on PPG it is potentially more likely that the team in our division finishing third from bottom will be relegated thanks to having played less game.
Wikipedia is incorrect on this BTW. It states that the 20th places teams will potentially avoid relegation, however with B&L dropping out this was amended to third from bottom as per Non-League Matters.

No, the Southern League Premier is currently running 2 Clubs short, at 22.
If you accept that Merthyr will be reinstated next season, that will be 23. i.e. 1 Club short
That means if 3 Clubs are promoted to S L Premier, from wherever, there will be 26 applicants, including the changes at the top end, when the League standard is 24 Clubs.
Therefore Southern League Premier has to lose 2 Clubs by relegation to get back to 24, both of whom could be subject to PPG with the other Leagues.
The team finishing in position 20 is surely safe, and doesn't come in to the equasion!
We just have to make sure we are well clear of it when it happens!!

You're looking at our division in isolation. That is not how it works.
Before Merthr dropped out the bottom two teams from each division were to be relegated. Then 1 of the 3 teams finishing third from bottom would have been reprieved in order to reflect that we were one team short across the 4 divisions. If our division ended up with an extra club they'd just have moved a team or teams laterally to balance out the divisions. This is what has happened in recent years. I guess the idea is that the team with the best PPG is more deserving of staying up.
Now that Merthyr are hibernating the precedent would be to only relegate 2 of the 4 teams finishing third from bottom. The promotion and relegation rules quoted in Wiki are from 2019. After B&L dropped out they were revised.

So that would mean 3 down & 4 up regardless of what’s happening with Merthyr - I suspect this may change!

No. Only bottom two go down and then presumably the two others across the divivions with the worst PPG. Prior to Merthyr pulling out it was one team that was staying up based on PPG.
What would help is if the tables features a dotted line for the teams 3rd from bottom.

I have been trying to say that all along!! The Club finishing in 20th position in our CURRENT League will be safe!! No. In our DIVISION (not league) the teams finishing 19th and 20th will get relegated. The team finishing 18th, I.e. third from bottom, is then potentially safe. This is because regulation is decided across Level 3 as a whole and not the individual divisions. This is not new, it's just not impacted us since they started doing it. 2020-21 relegation: Two of the four Step 3 clubs with the worst PPG finishing third from bottom will be relegated southern-football-league.co.uk/league-table/Southern%20League%20Premier%20South/2020/2021/P/br]Please don't make me explain this for a 5th time🤣 (However if another team were to drop out now I believe that they would be placed in a relegation spot - Merthyr got away with it because they had yet to play a match.)
