Another reason to hate plastic pitches, they ruin away form
Onto next match on proper grass

Our first away defeat since September.
Weirdly, four out our five away losses have been on a plastic pitch. Makes you wonder.

Eastbourne played to the conditions which no doubt they've experienced many times, while we struggled to adapt our game to suit.
There was a stiff end-to-end wind coupled with, to put it diplomatically, not one of the better 3G surfaces I've seen - the bounce was fierce and plenty of passes from both sides that would have been fine on a better surface ended up in touch as there was no degradation in the bounciness or the pace of the ball. So, not a great spectacle, but I daresay the home fans were happy enough with the outcome.
That said, we just didn't adapt and were made to pay. Both goals came from us losing possession when really we ought not to have done and two quick breaks ended with easy conversions. Not dissimilar to the goals we conceded at Tonbridge (one of the better 3G surfaces, in my opinion).
The fundamental was the players clearly didn't trust themselves with the surface and ended up being very tentative indeed. Our normal game just went AWOL.
We've got to put together a better plan when encountering 3g pitches, as they're not going to go away. Eastbourne showed us how to do it and, while not easy on the eye, they got the result they wanted.

That is my reasoning on alternative surface pitches!
Whatever people say, I still believe they give an advantage to those that have them against those that don't, for around 40% of the season.
There are advantages and dis-advantages to using them, mostly financial, for Clubs but, if certain Clubs can gain an advantage, however small that may be, they will use it.
I'm not decrying the pitches per se, but there must surely come a time when a decision must be made for all, or none, to have them!!
There are also, as Nigel says, different degrees and standards of plastic pitch, at different venues.
To continue with some have/some don't is not fair to all clubs, or the integrity of football!
Yes, it also works the other way for those with artificial pitches, who then have to play on grass alternate weeks, but is it also fair for them to chop and change as well!!
To me it's all or no one. My vote is no one!!
Grass for all with, if possible, a plastic alternative for training or hiring! May not be plausible for most but seems the only alternative, unless we all go plastic, or all stay grass!!
Whatever the discussions, I fear that the changing weather patterns, too baking hot or too freezing cold and wet, will ultimately make the decision for us!!
