Whatever the circumstances, it'd be pretty shitty to trial a player throughout pre-season and then, two days before the season starts, effectively say "no".
Very, very poor behaviour, and a big knockback to John. Gutted for him.
I've no idea if any bridges have been burnt, but I'd be delighted to see John in National South wearing our shirt. He'll always be welcomed by Boro' fans wherever he ends up.

Eastleigh have always been a most 'honourable' Club, in the eyes of Boro fans Nigel, 'cough' 'cough', sorry something sticking in my throat.
I'll go and have another swig of something out of the Hampshire Senior Cup, that will cure it.
