Both literally and metaphorically a match of two halves. We made very hard work it.
The first 10 minutes or so was just a load of corners or so that led to nothing. Each time we took one we played it short, which was hopeless and just ended up being picked up by Banbury.
After that, up to the midpoint of the first half, we dominated possession. Despite this we couldn't get past the defence and the majority of the first 45 minutes became a stalemate. We definitely missed having Ricky Holmes and Paul Hodges in midfield at the time, as they started to pile the pressure on halfway through the first half. Having said that, Sam Deering did an excellent job filling that absent role throughout the game.
Shortly before half time, CJ (who had been making mistakes as wing back, it was evident John Oyenuga was needed) picked up the ball and pinged it forward to find Fernandes. We hadn't done much with crosses throughout the first half so I wasn't expecting much. But Michael managed to make a pass low and hard, which found one of the Banbury defenders who kindly stuck it in the net for us.
The second half was better as we had much more chances on goal. Fernandes continued his first half form and played well down the wing. Deering did a solid job in midfield which they evidently couldn't cope with as he was fouled twice in three minutes.
Speaking of fouls, the last 20 minutes saw a red card as David Pratt came one on one with the keeper and was fouled by their man when it was a goal scoring opportunity. The resultant free kick was decent, but easily grasped by the keeper, who was subject to the classic chant "oooooooooohhhhhhhh, YOU'RE SHITTT, AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH."
Other than that, the game was much more scrappy in the second half than it was in the first with multiple yellows being given out, especially in the final quarter.
Youel Emmanuel missed a chance in added time to seal the game after he came on for Reggie, which was a shame.
But overall, a game that started off as a stalemate and ended with progression to the next round :-).
Come on you Boro!

Just about hit all on the head there Tom! To get a win after making six or seven changes, for obvious reasons taking Tuesday in to account, was a great relief, and well done to all for digging in to get it.
Now on to Hayes and a Massive, Massive game for both sides. Any form of result in our favour would be tremendous so lets hope we can pull something out of it.
See Hayes got dumped in the Trophy 3-0 today at home to Worthing, so it looks like they have used the same reasoning and priorities.
A rumble in the Jungle is forecast, so........
COME ON YOU YELLOWWSSAA!!
GET TO THE RADIO COMMENTARY IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT, TO CHEER THE LADS ON IN SPIRIT!!!!!!

Deservedly, David Pratt got MotM. Playing a lot higher than Tuesday (it's almost as if someone reads this forum!) he stood on the toes of Banbury's centre halves throughout, caused plenty of trouble, and got their centre half sent off (easy decision, no arguments). From then it was about controlling the game.
Yes, both teams put out sides out to get miles in the legs of the fringe players, but it seems our fringe players were better than Banbury's.
Judging by today's result v Worthing, either Hayes can be undone relatively easily or had the same mind-set. Tuesday is a big game.

I took a very quick look at the H&Y line-ups for their last few games. They seem to have had a different line-up for their last three games and I seem to remember that they've been signing additional players in recent weeks, presumably with their backlog in mind. However the team that lost yesterday looked quite strong - it featured their top scorers for a start.
The one comment I spotted on line was that they've reverted to hoof and run tactics in recent weeks and that the better team won.

The H&Y chairman was watching our game against Beaconsfield - they are looking at re-signing Scott Donnelley from Beaconsfield so were scoping-out him as well as us ready for Tuesday.
