Playing their first home League game at Winklebury tomorrow.
Glad they got going again, and good luck to them. Hope we can have some games with them sometime soon.
Hope Mr R rots in the mud of the old Camrose!!

Great news for them and their fans although it’s not a return to the Camrose. I’d visited there a few times stretching back to the 80’s. Always liked the ground and the clubhouse.

In normal times Basingstoke railway station would be a picture on a Saturday morning. Fans heading to their games in London, Southampton and, to a lesser extent, Reading and Pompey.
The town and surrounds adds up to 180,000+ people, so I continue to be surprised that an MK Dons-style entrepreneur hasn't turned up to take them up the levels.

When Wimbledon (now MK Dons) were looking at moving, Basingstoke was seriously considered and became very close to their new location. Wimbledon made an offer for the ‘Water End’ pitches on the A30 between Hook & Basingstoke with the plan to develop the site into a 20k seater stadium and all weather pitches for training/ community use. As part of the plan they offered to build a new railway station there to cope with the influx of fans. It was rejected in the end to protect Basingstoke FC by the local council and on traffic grounds/ impact on a green-field site by those living nearby.

Also re: Basingstoke, it is the same size as Wigan, yet they as a town manage to support a top RL side and a (albeit fluctuating) high level football club... And Basingstoke has? There’s just not the inbuilt desire in Basingstoke for any sports team of size. Their highest profile sport is ice hockey and even Hampshire CC abandoned Basingstoke for years once they had a proper ground (although they have had occasional CC games back at the Bounty over recent seasons.
